Need a hand with Knokk?

Setup guides and common questions for email accounts, App Passwords, themes, and more.

Getting started

How do I add a Gmail account?

Open Settings → Add Email Account, choose the Gmail preset. You'll need a Google App Password — Knokk includes a step-by-step guide. Make sure 2-Step Verification is enabled on your Google account first.

Why does the "App passwords" page say "not available for your account"?

App passwords require 2-Step Verification to be turned on. If you're using a Google Workspace account, your admin may have disabled App Passwords — contact your IT administrator.

How do I add Outlook, Hotmail, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, or Proton Mail?

Open Settings → Add Email Account and tap the provider chip. Knokk auto-fills the IMAP and SMTP server settings. For iCloud, you'll need an App-Specific Password from appleid.apple.com.

Can I use Knokk without an email account?

Yes. You can connect any of the supported messaging platforms — Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, LinkedIn, Discord, or Snapchat — from Settings → Add Platform.

How do I switch between light and dark theme?

Click your avatar or name in the bottom-left corner to open the user dropdown, then use the theme toggle to choose System, Light, or Dark.

Why is one email displayed in light mode while everything else is dark?

Knokk detects each email's intended color palette and renders it on a matching canvas — a light-mode marketing email gets a white background even if Knokk is in dark mode. Use the theme toggle in the email toolbar to override it for that message.

How do I disable my signature on a specific message?

Tap the signature icon in the compose toolbar. It turns yellow when active and muted when off.

Where is my data stored? Does Knokk send my emails anywhere?

All data stays on your Mac. Email credentials are stored in macOS Keychain. Knokk connects directly to your email provider over TLS — there are no Knokk servers in between.
